What is CSA?

A CSA is a partnership between a farm and a community of members who choose to share the risks and enjoy the rewards of the farm.

Here’s how it works: You purchase a “share” of crops, and we provide you with fresh, safe, organically grown produce every week.

Because you’re sharing the risks and rewards, you get to experience the ups and downs of the season just like we do. For instance, one season we might have a bumper crop of tomatoes but a poor showing of peppers, so you get plenty of tomatoes and not so many peppers. The next season, carrots may steal the show while head lettuce does so-so, so you get plenty of carrots and an average amount of head lettuce.

Besides the oh-so-tasty veggies, rewards of being a farm member also include access to pick-your-own and forage items, the beauty of our prairie/wooded walking trail, a children’s play area, and access to our private CSA Member Facebook group.

What’s in a CSA Share?

We separate our CSA into three seasons: Spring, Summer and Fall. This way you can choose which season works best for you--or you can simply choose three seasons (Spring, Summer, Fall) with our CSA Bundle option.

One of our goals is to provide veggie variety. Weather and nature permitting, this is the produce you should expect in your CSA share, with 5-10 items per week for Medium and Large shares, 4 items per week for Small share.

Amounts of each item depend on your share choice, with the goal to provide you the amount of produce you’d eat in a week.

Save 5% when you purchase three seasons of organic produce at once! Distribution runs 24 weeks total, from mid-April through mid-November, with a two-week break at the end of May/beginning of June and a two-week break at the beginning of September. You’ll choose one distribution day when you sign-up (Mon 2-6 | Thurs 9-10:30 | Sat 9-noon), then come the following weeks:

Along with your veggies, enjoy our wooded/prairie walking trails with forage items, hanging out in Tracie Park, and access to your PYO area. Your membership also includes access to our private CSA Member Facebook group where farm members find and share cooking techniques, recipes, and support.

What’s a Sliding Scale? Why do we use one?

We’ve had people tell us we don’t charge enough for our produce. We’ve also had people tell us they wish they could have access to organic veggies, but they can’t afford it.

For additional convenience, we also offer payment plans and the option to use SNAP to purchase a CSA share. For a payment plan, please reach out directly to us at 219-742-0028.

Frequently Asked Questions

When do I pick up my veggies?

We offer on-farm pick-up at our farm in DeMotte. You'll choose your distribution option at check-out from the following:

Mondays 2-6 pm / Thursdays 9-10:30 am / Saturdays 9 am--noon

What if I go on vacation and have to miss distribution? Can I switch my pick-up date?

Yes! In order to do this, we ask that you give us 7 days notice. If you have to miss the whole week, we don't hold your produce until the following week. In those cases, we ask that you would designate a friend or family member to pick up your produce for you and benefit from or store your share. We can also donate your share for you for the time you'll be gone.

When does the CSA begin?

Spring distribution begins for 2026 begins April 27.

Summer distribution for 2026 begins June 15.

Fall distribution for 2026 begins September 14.

These are our INTENDED start dates, but sometimes the weather has different ideas. We'll give you plenty of notice before distribution begins!

Do I get to pick out what I want each week during distribution?

Yes and no. We have specific produce that is available each week. As you walk through the distribution line, you'll see signs indicating how much of each produce item your type of share receives. You may choose not to take something, or to put something you don't want into the Exchange Box and take something different from there. 

Is everything I receive grown organically?

Absolutely! We are USDA Certified Organic. Every now and then we provide CSA produce from other local farmers, and we let you know if it's not organic!

I was running late and missed distribution. Can I pick up my produce later?

While we don't encourage making this a practice, if you send us a text or message letting us know you're running late, we'll pack up your share and make arrangements for you to pick it up within the next 24 hours.

Can I send someone else to pick up my produce if I can't be there?

For sure! Just let us know who you're sending so we can be sure to help them through the distribution line.

What else can I do on CSA days besides get my veggies?

If you have time, we would love for you to experience the farm in its fullness! We have a half mile walking trail through the woods and prairie, pick-your-own options, and a play area for kids. You can also chat with other members and get ideas for cooking techniques and recipes.
