Community Supported Agriculture

A weekly veggie adventure within a community of fellow veggie lovers.

What is CSA?

A CSA is a partnership between a farm and a community of members who choose to share the risks and enjoy the rewards of the farm.

Here’s how it works: You purchase a “share” of crops, and we provide you with fresh, safe, naturally grown produce every week.

Because you’re sharing the risks and rewards, you get to experience the ups and downs of the season just like we do. For instance, one season we might have a bumper crop of spinach but a poor showing of radishes, so you get plenty of spinach and not so many radishes. The next season, carrots may steal the show while baby salad greens do so-so, so you get plenty of carrots and an average amount of salad greens.

Besides the oh-so-tasty veggies, rewards of being a farm member also include access to pick-your-own items, forage items, the beauty of our prairie/wooded walking trail, a children’s play area, and access to our private CSA Member Facebook group.

What’s in a CSA Share?

We separate our CSA into three seasons: Spring, Summer, and Fall. This way you can choose which season works best for you--or you can simply choose all three with our CSA Bundle option.

One of our goals is to provide veggie variety. Weather and nature permitting, this is the produce you should expect in your CSA share, with 5-10 items per week.

Amounts of each item depend on your share choice, with the goal to provide you the amount of produce you’d eat in a week.

Large Share (formerly Half)--feeds 4-5 omnivores | Medium Share (formerly Quarter)--feeds 2-3 omnivores | Small Share--feeds 1 omnivore

CSA Bundle

Registration for our 2020 CSA is open!

Save 10% when you purchase all three seasons of CSA at once! Distribution runs 27 weeks total, from mid-April through mid-November, with a one week break at the beginning of June and a two-week break at the beginning of September.  Along with your veggies, enjoy our wooded/prairie walking trails with forage items, a children’s play area, and invitation to our seasonal farm events. Your membership also includes access to our private CSA Member Facebook group where farm members find and share cooking techniques, recipes, and support.

CSA Bundle works on a rolling basis. For example, if you sign up for the Bundle in Summer 2020, you also receive Fall 2020 and Spring 2021.

Large Share (formerly Half) feeds 4-5 omnivores per week.

Medium Share (formerly Quarter) feeds 2-3 omnivores per week.

Small Share (new!) feeds 1 omnivore per week.

We're also offering a new Traveler's Share, exclusive to the CSA Bundle. This is for farm members who spend a significant amount of the season traveling but still want to be part of the CSA. For more info and to see if you qualify, contact Julie by email/message/text/phone (219-742-0028).

Sliding Scale: We're part of a community made up of our neighbors and fellow townspeople, all who come from different life situations.  We want our produce to be accessible to all, so we use a sliding scale for payment. When you select your share, you’ll see three different payment options--please choose the one that best works for you in this season of your life. Click here to read the full rationale behind the sliding scale.

What’s a Sliding Scale? Why do we use one?

We’ve had people tell us we don’t charge enough for our produce. We’ve also had people tell us they wish they could have access to what we’re growing, but they can’t afford it.

You're part of a community made up of your neighbors and fellow townspeople, all who come from different life situations.  We want our produce to be accessible to all, so we use a sliding scale for payment. When you select your share, you’ll see three different payment options--please choose the one that best works for you in this season of your life. Click here to read the full rationale behind the sliding scale.

For additional convenience, we offer payment plans and work-for-a-share options. Simply choose that option during check-out.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I go on vacation and have to miss distribution? Can I switch my pick-up date?

Yes, for on-farm distribution. In order to do this, we ask that you give us 7 days notice. If you have to miss the whole week, we don't hold your produce until the following week. In those cases, we ask that you would designate a friend or family member to pick up your produce for you and benefit from or store your share.

For a drop site: If you give us 7 days notice, you can skip one week and we'll deliver two boxes of produce for you the following week. Or you could designate a friend or family member to pick up your produce for you and benefit from or store your share during the week you're gone.

When does the CSA begin?

Spring distribution begins mid-April. Summer distribution begins the second week of June. Fall distribution begins the first week of September. These are our INTENDED start dates, but sometimes the weather has different ideas. We'll give you plenty of notice before distribution begins!

Do I get to pick out what I want each week during distribution?

Yes and no. We have specific produce that is available each week. As you walk through the distribution line, you'll see cards indicating how much of each produce item your type of share receives. You may choose not to take something, or to put something you don't want into the Exchange Box and take something different from there. For our drop-site, you receive a box of all the produce available that week.

Is everything I receive grown organically?

Absolutely! Check out our certification documents through Certified Naturally Grown.

I was running late and missed distribution. Can I pick up my produce later?

While we don't encourage making this a practice, if you send us a text or message letting us know you're running late, we'll pack up your share and make arrangements for you to pick it up within the next 24 hours for a $5 boxing fee.

Can I send someone else to pick up my produce if I can't be there?

For sure! Just let us know who you're sending so we can be sure to help them through the distribution line.

What else can I do on distribution days besides get my veggies?

If you have time, we love for you to experience the farm in its fullness! We have a half mile walking trail through the woods and prairie, pick-your-own options, and a play area for kids. Whether at the farm or a drop-site, you can chat with other members and get ideas for cooking techniques and recipes.
